You know that thrill you get when you're just about to kiss someone for the first time? This isn't like that.

Awesome Friday

That Jessica Hagy over at Indexed is one perceptive cookie.

Awesome Friday

And I'll be having an Awesome Saturday this week. San Francisco Burrito Crawl Dos. I know I promised a write-up and pictures from SFBC1, but the U.S. Postal Service seems to have lost the package containing my copy of Dreamweaver Studio 8. And yes, I'm too lazy to hand-code all the HTML for a photo album.

Almost enough to make me join flickr. Almost.

Spring Training Recap

As some of you already know, I spent St. Patrick's Day weekend in Phoenix, catching up with a couple of friends over baseball, beer and food. And we might have hit a strip club or five. Since this was the two-year anniversary of my bachelor party, it definitely seems like this is turning into a biennial event.

In any case, I had a nice post started but my damn browser crashed, and I don't feel like retyping everything so I'll just write down a list. You can use your imagination to fill in the blanks. So for your reading enjoyment, some highlights from The Second Biennial Greater Phoenix Open:

  • Rustler's Rooste (steak and fried snake)

  • Texas Rangers / Seattle Mariners at Peoria Sports Complex

  • Sonny's

  • U-turns

  • "Next time, you're getting a GPS."

  • Five & Diner

  • Seamus McCaffrey's, St. Patrick's Day

  • Mill Avenue, Tempe

  • Sadly enough, no Hooters this time.

  • Orange County LAnaheim Angels of Disneyland, California / Oakland A's at Phoenix Municipal Stadium

  • Really Cute Waitresses™ and "Hey, Jimmy!"

  • Skin Cabaret

  • Asia de Cuba at Mondrian Scottsdale

  • Diamond Jack's (formerly Cheerleaders) - only one hour this time

  • Guinness

  • 2-for-1 beers

  • "Fuck, it's hot out here!" = Record-breaking heat. In Phoenix.

  • Sno-cones

  • "Cheesecake Factory is the second-best restaurant in Phoenix?!?"

Can't wait 'til 2009.

Grab bag

Hola, mi amigos. (And no, that does NOT say "holla.")

Just wanted to turn you guys (and girls) on to a couple of things that have piqued my interest recently.

  • Do you think blogs are way too verbose? Do you think you might be able to post the goings-on in your life if you were limited to... say, 140 characters? And if you could do it from your cell phone? Well, welcome to Twitter. Here's my profile. Go ahead and add me as a friend because if I know you well enough to "friend" you on MySpace, I know you well enough to "twitter" you, too. (That just sounds dirty.)        :)

  • Oh, one caveat: you might want to disable text notifications unless you have a REALLY BIG texting plan on your cell. You can still set it to text you if someone sends you a direct message, but you don't want to get inundated with a million random postings.

  • Speaking of twittering, I'll probably be sending out a few this weekend, as I'll be in Phoenix watching spring training and hanging out with a couple friends. As much as I hate to use the term, it is definitely going to be a man-cation, formerly known as the "weekend with the guys."

  • Brandy and I had dinner with some friends last night. The Hard Knox Cafe has some of the best fried chicken in San Francisco, by the way. It's a little out-of-the-way, but it's completely worth the drive. I also recommend their fried catfish. And their smothered pork chops. And their collard greens (with plenty of Crystal). And their red beans and rice.

  • I'm sorry I forgot to post this last week, but The Big Picture is holding their own March Madness tournament, and it has very little to do with basketball. They call it the "Would You Do..." tourney, and we're already into the Elite Eight. Here's the first post to give you some background.

  • For the life of me, I can't figure out how Melissa Stark only got the 4-seed. That left-bracket semifinal between Stark and Erin Andrews is the true final matchup for me.

Sun and Moon

This is fucking sweet. Once again, courtesy of the incomparable Boing Boing:

Stereo Eclipse

It's a movie of the moon sweeping in front of the sun, as captured by the STEREO B spacecraft. Read the page for details of the extreme UV wavelength photography and STEREO A/B project.

These are actual pictures, people. Sweet.

Parody, thy name is YouTube

Bwah ha ha ha ha ha ha!

First, the original Nike "Second Coming" ad. You've probably seen it if you watch any televised sports at all (and I'm sure you'll see it if you watch the NCAA Tournament this month).

And now for the parody, "The Third Coming." Somebody get these guys a budget.

Bulletproof

From the wonderfully astute folks at Boing Boing:

Your new bulletproof raincoat

Hmmm... and now I'm one step closer to realizing those dreams of becoming a black-clad force for vigilante justice in a city without law. Now to get back to my years of ninja training...
